Visibility is a significant safety factor when driving after dark. If you ever experience the following issues, it might be time for new headlights. You can have your headlight bulbs tested, upgraded, or replaced at your local Honda dealership.

Does Your Honda Need New Headlights?

Flickering Light

When the light in front of your car is flickering, either your bulbs are on their last legs or the wiring is damaged. An issue with your alternator or battery might also cause erratic voltage and flickering headlights.

Flickering is more likely to indicate a problem with traditional halogen bulbs, which have a tungsten filament that can loosen and cause flickering. The more consistent light produced by high-intensity discharge (HID) and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs rarely flickers before the bulbs eventually fail.

Fading Light

When it comes to fading light, the situation is reversed: halogen bulbs rarely fade before they suddenly die out. HID and LED bulbs, on the other hand, can lose up to 70% of their brightness before finally giving up the ghost. It’s best to have HID or LED bulbs replaced when they initially begin to fade in order to avoid driving with insufficient road visibility.

One Bulb Dies

If only one of your headlights dies, the wiring for that particular socket might have become loosened. If the bulb itself is finished, you may need to replace both headlights at the same time.

This is because it’s often difficult to find individual headlight bulbs that perfectly match. They’re usually sold in pairs, which ensures evenly balanced lighting on both sides of the road ahead. Besides, when one bulb of a pair fails, the other is rarely far behind.

Blown Fuse

If the fuse for your headlights keeps blowing, you either have an issue with the wiring or the bulbs themselves. You could try replacing the bulbs and see if the problem goes away. If the fuse continues blowing, you may need to have a technician take a look.

How Frequently To Get New Bulbs at Your Honda Dealer

The longevity of your headlights mainly depends on the type of bulb you’re using. Halogen bulbs are the traditional bulbs that you’ll still find on many older vehicles. More recently, HID and LED bulbs become the mainstay in modern cars because of their brightness and durability.

On average, halogen bulbs last around 800 miles of usage at nighttime driving. HID bulbs last about 5,000 miles and LED bulbs can last 20,000 miles or longer, which could be the lifespan of your car.
