The Big Island of Hawaii has no shortage of hiking trails, waterfalls, and beaches to explore. If you’re looking for summertime activities in Kailua-Kona, HI, you will not be disappointed. Here is what we recommend!

1. Boogie Board at Hapuna Beach

Hapuna Beach is a white sand beach that is a popular destination for visitors. As the largest of the island’s white sand beaches, there is plenty of coastlines to explore. Hapuna has consistently been ranked on the Top Ten lists of best beaches. One of the reasons for this is there are actually good conditions for swimming. Unlike many of the other beaches in Hawaii, the waves at Hapuna are calm and great for body surfing.

2. Take a Coffee Tour at a Certified Farm

Kailua-Kona lies right in the middle of the coffee county of Big Island. Kona coffee is well-known for being some of the best coffee in the world. With tons of coffee farms on this side of the island, it shouldn’t be difficult to find a coffee tour that suits your needs.
Kona Coffee Living History Farm is one of the most popular farms to explore. Opened in the 1920s, this farm will let you see years’ worth of the traditional coffee-making process. This self-guided experience leaves you free to roam around the coffee trees at your own pace. Non-resident admission is $20 per adult, while resident admission is $15 per adult. All proceeds go towards educational programs and preservation projects.

3. Explore Downtown Kona

Downtown Kona is an expansive, one-mile stretch that provides stunning views of Kailua. A popular location for tourists and locals alike, this place is buzzing with people. In this area, you can be sure to find plenty of restaurants and shops to explore.

While you’re in Downtown Kona, make sure you stop by Kona Farmer’s Market. In this, one of the most popular markets in the area, you’ll find over 40 vendors with fresh produce, handmade trinkets, and traditional clothing. The booths are run by locals, so this is a great opportunity to make sure your money is going back into the community.

4. Take a Night Swim with Manta Rays

Going on a manta ray night snorkel is an unforgettable experience. The Kona coast is home to over 240 resident manta rays, each with unique identifications and names. There are numerous knowledgeable tour guides that will take you out to see these incredible creatures up close. If this sounds like an experience you’re interested in, we recommend checking out Sea Paradise Tours.
With these four activities, you are sure to have the summer of a lifetime! With the curved roads and steep inclines, getting around Big Island is no easy feat. With the 2023 Honda HR-V LX, you’ll have no problem cruising those tricky roads. Stop by Tony Honda Kona to see what we have in stock!
